Hi team, Des here. Coming to Hellfest all the way from New Zealand by myself. Can’t wait! Mostly black metal/ Viking/ thrash/ power fan, but it looks to me like Hellfest will be a good place to expand my horizons a bit. Looking forward to meeting you all and sharing a beer or 20 with you throughout the weekend!
Sadly I have to go that far for a good festival, nothing even remotely like this round here! There used to be a festival in Australia called Soundwave which was always good, but it was cancelled this year. We do get bigger bands (both Iron Maiden and Sabbath are coming this year) but we don’t get any of the « smaller » bands - not that they are small, but there just isn’t the market here for bands like Primordial, Satyricon, Amon Amarth and similar… There is a good strong local metal scene, but we just don’t get tours like you guys do- hence why the round the world trip!
You come in Europe ?.. Stay here, in our old continent ! Strange way of life for you, but so many Metal festivals ] And Hellfest is the best : very good choise for beginning !!!
Don’t worry, you won’t be the only one coming over for festivals.
A friend of mine is coming over, just to do 3 or 4 European festivals, from Australia. It’s almost a 24hrs flight!
Good thing we’re « lucky » to be here. I travel maximum 8hrs for one festival that I’m attending.
Just prepare yourself! All documents in order etc. That can be a hassle sometimes.
Welcome around Des!!!
It’s awesome how far people come from! Kazakstan, New Zeland, Venezuela, California,…I’m totaly amazed by your passion guys and gals!!! ,,/
For my first HF in 2009 ,I had Columbian dudes aside my tent! They were so happy to be there (well, maybe the stuff we shared was not innocent to the fact…lol)!
Just take a look at Wacken! A friend of mine from the US went 4 times (as far as I remembner), another one from Aussiland is coming over for the 3rd time, I read the (Wacken) forum, where people are coming over from Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, you name it, they’re going.
It’s just because we (in Europe) do have the best festivals in the world! And they (non Europeans) all say the very same thing.
Excellent, glad to hear I’m not going to be the only one! Yep, you guys definitely get the best festivals just looking at the lineup! And everything I’ve heard or read about Hellfest tells me that the atmosphere will be amazing! I’m really looking forward to it.
I know I know. But somehow in my head it seems normal that EVERYONE comes to Wacken Maybe it’s because that Wacken is more famous than Hellfest and so in my head it seems that Hellfest is just a tiny unknown festival (and that is wrong abviously!) haha
It’s also because, according to some, Hellfest has a « better » line up than Wacken does. (totally subjective, nonetheless…) so people are orientating towards other festivals, such as Graspop (Dessel) and Hellfest. And whereas Wacken has 70.000 visitors, Hellfest and Graspop aren’t that much smaller, with (corrected to the German system) about the same amount of visitors. (The French and Belgians count per day, whereas you count per sold ticket!)
And tbh, Wacken has become a bit TOO big for me. Too much « Ballermann » and useless activities around it. But that’s TOTALLY my opinion.
