Your questions about Hellfest!

Thanks alot Wombat. This festival is going to be incredible!

Good to see some yanks coming over for it. Lot of jealous people on the Archives forum!

pro cam are forbidden without a photo pass, but you can keep it without the lenses !

This is a change of policy from previous years (I brought my camera and lenses the past two years with no problems). Can you confirm this? It’s a big downer if true…and likely to catch a lot of people by surprise because of past form (you do see a lot of SLRs at Hellfest)

Note that if you’re a pro and attending for commercial photo purposes the photo pass is a good investment since it gives you access to the photo pit which makes getting good pics so easy it’s laughable  you might well also get to use the upstairs bit of the bar in front of the man stage which is off limits for us mere normal ticket buying folks (but may also be reserved for sponsors rather than photographers). I take pics purely for myself so I have no justification for the photo pass.

I pressume there is a mistake.
In FAQ it says:

- I am an amateur photographer, can I get a photo pass?
No. Only photographers who work for the media can get a photo pass and our official photo team is already full. However, cameras (including SLR’s) are allowed on the festival site. Therefore you can take pictures from the audience area.

I also says here:
- What kind of equipment can I get into the concert arena?
Yes, you can bring your camera (including SLR cameras) with you. Video cameras aren’t. But if a band disallows it, the use of photo camera will be banned for the entire day. Please note that there was not ban since 2008.

Let me know if anything changed.

OK, I’m forwarding your question to the staff. We’ll let you know asap.

Last years it was slr accepted but without any detachable lens.
But wait the confirmation here.

I don’t want to be rude but can you please not spread misinformation until we have formal word?

Last year I took with me: 80-200/2.8, 400/5.6, 17/3.5, 30/3.5, 85/1.8 with no problems at all. The year before I travelled a bit lighter and only had 135/2.8, 24/2.8 and 50/1.4. I generally had all these with me every day. I saw lots of other general festival goers (e.g. no photo pass) with SLRs and lenses stuck on them (what is the possible use of an SLR with no lenses?!!). The key advantage for people with a photo pass is access to the restricted front of stage areas, which makes an enormous practical difference  Allowing photography is one thing I really like I about the festival since I get to indulge two passions at the same time for the weekend. It would be a great pity indeed if things have changed this year - and unneccessarily so too I’d think.

Thanks

Hi everyone!
Its gonna be my first time at Hellfest - for me this year’s line-up is the best line-up I have ever seen in any festival.

I’ve seen somewhere on this forum the schedule of last year. If I remember correctly, it had the exact number of bands (on each stage) as this year’s line-up, discluding the new addition - Thin Lizzy.
So the new schedule must be be somewhat different than last year, and thus my question is when will
the new schedule be published (if at all)?

Thanks.

Running order to be known in May.

Thanks for all the help everyone. We are leaning towards booking a package with Argon. I’ve read alot of mixed reviews and was curious what everyone thought of them? Seems like a pretty good deal and since we have no idea where the hell we are going, seemed like a good choice.

hey all!

i have a question to ask about camping: i want to buy a pass just for the third day, while my friends will be attending all three days. will i be able to camp with them during this time?
thanks!

This will be my 4th year going with Argon. Not had any major problems with them. Worst part is just being stuck on a coach for hours on end.

Nope, 1 day tickets give you limited access to the camping site: from saturday to monday in your case.

in that case, will i be able to stay all three days for a fee?
thanks for your help!

I have never heard of that possibility, maybe Metalwombat has. But I think staying the whole weekend requires a 3 day pass (or an additional 1 ticket for friday).

I’ve got a couple of questions,

 1. Will there be a mobilephone charger point this year?

 2. And last year the camping was really packed, will the camping grounds be a bit bigger this year?

No mobilephone charger point planned so far :frowning: (but I’ll forward the request, once again).
The camping grounds should stay the same than last year.

Given that we’ve lost a few of the less mainstream bands lately, how about picking up the phone and calling Sven at Van to see if Urfaust are available. They’re surely one of the most distinctive bm bands around…and they’ve been playing live quite a bit lately - plus they’re only in Holland!

Yeah or you just phone Atgeir, also a dutch band but not that known :stuck_out_tongue:
